The Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology and Remi Tinubu will launch the Energise Commercialisation Now (ECoN) initiative in Kano. The programme aims to accelerate innovation and industrial development across Nigeria.

It also seeks to close the gap between research and commercialisation. This effort will help position the country for technology-driven economic growth.

Kano will host policymakers, researchers, industry leaders, and international partners. The event will take place from April 23 to 25, 2026. It marks the North-West zonal rollout of the initiative. The gathering will create a strong platform for collaboration and innovation-led development.

ECoN focuses on turning locally developed ideas into market-ready products. The initiative strengthens links between academia and industry. It also promotes the commercialisation of research outputs. In addition, it encourages investment in innovation-driven sectors.

These efforts aim to unlock Nigeria’s untapped potential in science and technology. They also connect innovation to real economic opportunities.

Organisers have designed a clear three-day structure for the programme. On the first day, participants will focus on national mobilisation and policy direction. Government officials will deliver keynote addresses. The second day will feature innovation exhibitions and pitch sessions.

It will also include technical evaluations and industry discussions. On the third day, participants will explore financing and commercialisation strategies. Dedicated deal rooms will connect innovators with potential investors.

The initiative also targets long-standing challenges in the North-West. Key sectors include agriculture, textiles, and solid minerals. Many of these industries remain underdeveloped. ECoN will support intellectual property development and improve access to funding.

It will also expand participation in international trade platforms. These efforts aim to drive job creation and promote export-oriented industrial growth.

The Kano State Government has set up a Local Organising Committee. This committee will coordinate preparations and engage stakeholders. All seven North-West states will take part in the programme.

These states include Kaduna, Katsina, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, Jigawa, and Zamfara. Each state will showcase innovations from its institutions and industries.

ECoN aligns with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. This agenda prioritises innovation, economic diversification, and industrial expansion. Analysts believe the programme will reduce reliance on imports. It will also boost local production and strengthen global competitiveness.

Overall, the launch of ECoN by Remi Tinubu in Kano marks an important step forward. The initiative will help build a knowledge-based economy. Promoting collaboration and investment, it will support sustainable industrial growth. It will also create new opportunities for Nigerians.
