President Donald Trump has taken a bold step toward transparency, signing an executive order on Thursday to release long-classified files related to the assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Martin Luther King Jr.
“This is a big one—people have been waiting decades for this,” Trump announced in the Oval Office, pen in hand. After signing the order, he joked that the pen should be given to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., his pick for Secretary of Health and Human Services, and a nephew of JFK. “All will be revealed,” he promised.
The move is a historic push to uncover the mysteries behind these pivotal events in American history. While many JFK assassination documents have been previously released, significant portions remain redacted. Trump’s order calls for a complete plan within 15 days to ensure the full release of JFK files, with a 45-day timeline set for RFK and MLK records.

“Their families and the American people deserve the truth. Transparency is in the national interest,” the order declared.
The National Archives reported in 2023 that 99% of JFK-related documents were already public, following efforts by the Biden administration. However, national security concerns have kept some files classified, with agencies citing the need to protect confidential sources and methods.
While Trump had previously deferred full disclosure during his first term, citing national security advice, he made releasing the remaining documents a campaign promise in 2024. Now, his administration is moving forward to fulfill that promise, bringing the U.S. one step closer to unraveling decades-old mysteries.
