Trump Defends Attorney General Bondi As Backlash Grows Over Epstein Files

US President Donald Trump on Saturday defended Attorney General Pam Bondi as backlash mounted over the Justice Department’s handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, particularly from within his own supporter base.

In a lengthy post on Truth Social, Trump criticised those targeting Bondi and dismissed continued interest in Epstein’s case. “Nobody cares about Epstein,” he wrote, urging his supporters not to waste further energy on the matter. “What’s going on with my ‘boys’ and, in some cases, ‘gals’? They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB! We’re on one Team, MAGA, and I don’t like what’s happening.”

The backlash follows a joint memo released Monday by the FBI and Justice Department, which stated that there was no evidence supporting long-standing conspiracy theories surrounding Epstein’s death in federal custody in 2019 or his alleged client network.

Conservative figures including Laura Loomer and Elon Musk criticised both Bondi and FBI Director Kash Patel over the findings. Their frustration stems partly from earlier promises Bondi made to disclose significant revelations regarding Epstein, including names and flight logs.

US media outlets, including Fox News and NBC News, reported that FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino has clashed with Bondi over the issue and is considering resignation. Bongino, along with Patel, had previously suggested that the government was concealing Epstein-related information from the public.

However, the FBI memo noted that a review of over 300 gigabytes of data turned up “no incriminating client list” and no evidence that Epstein blackmailed influential individuals. It reaffirmed the Bureau’s earlier conclusion that Epstein died by suicide in a New York jail cell while awaiting trial, with no indication of foul play.

Speculation around Epstein’s alleged clientele intensified in February after Bondi told Fox News the client list was “sitting on my desk right now to review.”
